Posted by u/randomvegasposts 7 hours ago Give 0% tip, get 0% service. I'm a server at a casino. I had a guy always come in with his family, 7 people. (You can only add 18% to parties of 8 or more...) he always had a $300 comp from the casino. They'd order close to exactly that, and he'd tip $0 every time. (Once he left me a .19- cent slot ticket)

One Saturday, he came in and ordered, and I just didn't ring his food for 45 minutes. Other people that ordered after were getting their food, and he kept complaining. I just said, "Some items take longer to cook than others and continued serving my other 8 tables. So yeah.. be nice to service/retail workers

Arkell-v-Pressdram 8 hr. ago. edited 3 hr. ago This is exactly why paying servers a proper wage that's not dependent on tips is preferable to (North) America's current tipping culture. 309 Reply Share T-90H1 4 hr. ago The US isn't the only place. Canada is the same way

1017glogangbmgfbg - 9 hr. ago tipping 159 Reply Share randomvegasposts OP 9 hr. ago Okay let's look at " tipping" logically. A server gets paid $5.25 an hour. If you don't tip, no one would take that job.

I work in a crazy busy place where I serve between 70-100 people on weekend nights. Do you know how hard it is to have 9 tables at once? Groups of 6 needing 4 bills but they don't tell you until they're cashing out. Having food for 3 tables you have to run while splitting checks and taking orders and getting sat non-stop for 6 hours.

I walk nearly 11 miles in my shift usually. tipping." Would anyone on their right mind do that job for $5? You think " No

So now there's no servers (also I don't keep all of it. I tip out bartenders, bussers, dishwashers, hostess and i usually throw the kitchen something.) And it's based on my SALES not my tip. So if he buys $300 and I tip out about 7.5% of my sales it literally COSTS ME $22.50 to serve him while making $5 an hour.

Gabbz737 7 hr. ago I hate the American tipping system but until it is fixed I tip. I usually avoid restaurants with servers not making a decent wage. However my one person boycott isn't making much of a difference. Give it time though. Our economy so bad eventually nobody will be able to afford to eat.

dramaticbongos. 8 hr. ago What is your boss paying you for if it's not taking customers orders and serving food? 46 Reply Share EightBitTrash 8 hr. ago I mean, would you wait on a table of seven people hand and foot for two hours only to make $10.50? I know babysitters that make more than that in an hour.

OP's time is better spent serving the other people at the casino restaurant who ARE tipping, and also waiting on their service and attention. Everyone's "all about that hustle" and "bootstrap culture" but when it comes to servers picking and choosing what tables will make them the most money...

Veronica MarsIsGreat 5 hr. ago Because that's the job? Other people on minimum wage don't get tips, why are servers so special? Do the job you're being paid for or get a new job.

EightBitTrash 5 hr. ago. edited 5 hr. ago Other people on minimum wage (in the USA) make nearly double what servers make in minimum wage. "Server minimum wage" and "Regular worker minimum wage" are different things. In my state, server minimum wage is $3.90 and for regular workers it's $9.87.

randomvegasposts OP 8 hr. ago I absolutely took his order and served his food. The fact it took an hour and a half to get there is his fault Reply Share 12 svu fan 8 hr. ago You were just making sure he paid a good dose of tax. nobody got hurt. The food wasn't tainted. They still got what they asked for... ...just not immediately.

EightBitTrash. 7 hr. ago Hey OP how many times did this guy and his family of seven come in and get 300$ worth of food from a casino FOR FREE and then not tip? You left that part out, though you implied it's pretty regular.
  • 18
Sounds to me like making this guy wait 45 minutes for his food is perfect petty revenge for a guy and his family that loves to waste the time and money of others. He wasted your time, for no money and you wasted his time he could have spent gambling away the money he was definitely saving for gambling and not for tipping. A match made in heaven.

randomvegasposts OP 7 hr. ago I'd say they came in about once every 2 weeks for the full 7 person dining experience. I served him probably 10x over the course of the year (obviously, other servers got him sometimes too) And the comps were for our big gamblers. So the casino wasn't about to kick him out when he probably lost 10s-100s of thousands of dollars there.

Babebutters 8 hr. ago Wow, people! You're supposed to tip certain people. That's how it is in America. If you don't like it, don't go to those places. Go to the grocery store or go to the drive through. It's not that hard.

EightBitTrash 8 hr. ago Right? I feel like I'm in an episode of The Twilight zone or something. Is this really what people are like? They just don't tip...? They just assume that $5 an hour is enough for their servers?

Superspudmonkey . 8 hr. ago If everyone stopped tipping the issue would be resolved. 3 Reply Share satunnainenuuseri 5 hr. ago And we would have world peace if everyone just got along.

Babebutters 7 hr. ago Then servers would quit and take jobs that pay minimum wage. They won't have to work as hard and the pay will be the same. -3 Reply Share Ceico 5 hr. ago and the restaurants would start paying living wages... 4 Reply Share Babebutters 29 min. ago And your food would cost more.

SesbianLex 5 hr. ago tipping is stupid. if your service is dependent on tips, then you should work without salary. tips are for a "outstanding service" not for "standard service".
  • 25
SackclothSandy. 4 hr. ago Lol, if I know I'm getting paid $2.13 an hour to wait on your table, you're absolutely not my first priority. Outstanding service is for people who make my time worth it.

FederalParsley9347 3 hr. ago Well if i was on the fence before i've absolutely chosen a side. I'm done with tipping all together. You want to make more money? Go ask your boss for a raise like everybody else on the planet, panhandler.
